Distance from Eugene: About 2.5-3 hours
Few places in America leave a first impression quite like Crater Lake. Formed nearly 8,000 years ago after Mount Mazama erupted, Crater Lake is famous for its incredibly deep blue water and dramatic volcanic cliffs. On clear summer days, visibility stretches for miles, making it one of Oregon's most unforgettable destinations.
Visiting Crater Lake in 2026 looks a little different than it has in previous years due to construction at the park, but it still remains one of the most awe-inspiring places in the state and the world.

Silver Falls State Park
Distance from Eugene: About 1.5 hours
Known as the "crown jewel" of the Oregon State Parks system, Silver Falls offers one of the most spectacular waterfall hikes anywhere in the Pacific Northwest. Covering over 9,000 acres, it’s the largest state park in Oregon.
The park may be most famous for the Trail of Ten Falls, which winds through lush forest and passes ten different waterfalls, including several you can actually walk behind.
Even if you don't complete the entire trail, shorter hikes still provide incredible scenery.

Brice Creek Trail
Distance from Eugene: About 1 hour
If you're looking for crystal-clear water, quiet forests, and fewer crowds, Brice Creek is one of Lane County's hidden gems. While the Brice Creek trail is fabulous for hiking, the dozens of secret swimming holes are what locals cherish this area for the most.
Many locals visit during summer to cool off in the creek (by cliff jumping!) or enjoy a peaceful afternoon picnic.

Cottage Grove Covered Bridges
Distance from Eugene: About 30 minutes
Cottage Grove is known as the Covered Bridge Capital of Oregon, with six beautifully preserved historic bridges spread throughout the surrounding countryside.
Driving the Covered Bridge Scenic Byway makes for a relaxing half-day adventure filled with quiet roads, farms, rivers, and small-town charm.
